Court arrests Meduza founder Timchenko in absentia

A Moscow court has arrested in absentia the former editor-in-chief of Lenta.ru and founder of Meduza (the legal entity Medusa Project SIA is recognized in Russia as a foreign agent and an undesirable organization) Galina Timchenko (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent) in a case concerning an undesirable organization. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the press service of the capital’s courts of general jurisdiction.

“By decision of the Cheryomushkinsky District Court of Moscow, the investigator’s petition to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention for Galina Viktorovna Timchenko was granted…” the press service reported.

According to the court’s decision, the arrest will last for 2 months from the moment of her detention or extradition to the territory of the Russian Federation.

On June 11, the Russian Interior Ministry put Timchenko on the wanted list. The media manager was included in the register of foreign agents last summer. At that time, the Russian Justice Ministry reported that she had participated in the creation and dissemination of messages and materials of foreign agents to an unlimited number of people, and had also spoken out against the SVO.

In May, a criminal case was opened against Timchenko . According to the Investigative Committee , in September 2024 and March 2025, she “published videos on the Internet to generate protest sentiments among citizens, as well as to involve them in the activities of an organization that had been declared undesirable on Russian territory.”

Earlier it became known that Dudya (recognized in the Russian Federation as a foreign agent by the media) could be brought to criminal responsibility.
